Rice is one of the most popular side dishes in the world. It’s incredibly versatile, flavorful and filling.

But if you’re like me, it’s time to clear out old appliances like the rice cooker to make way for newer appliances like the Instant Pot and the air fryer.

I use my pressure cooker to make Instant Pot white rice, Instant Pot brown rice, Instant Pot basmati rice, Instant Pot jasmine rice, Instant Pot yellow rice, and more!

The good news is that the Instant Pot not only cooks plain rice really well, but it also cooks packaged rice mixes with seasonings.

Yes, that’s right, you can make Knorr rice sides in the Instant Pot!

I also love that Knorr rice sides are available in a variety of flavors. I can keep them in my pantry and select the one that pairs best with whatever main dish I happen to be serving.

With about 5 minutes of prep and only 20 minutes of hand-off time, Instant Pot Knorr rice sides cook up fluffy every time you make them. There’s no guesswork, just flavorful rice that your whole family will love.

Notes and Adaptations:

  • You’ll notice the amount of liquid called for in this recipe is less than what is listed on the package. That’s because there’s much less evaporation in pressure cooking, so you can get away with using less water!
  • Feel free to double the recipe and cook two packages–the cook time will remain the same.

  1. I am a hesitant cook. I sautéed some chicken thighs in the Instant Pot. Then, removed the chicken and added the ingredients for this rice recipe. Next, I put the chicken on top of the rice and cooked as instructed. My son said it is the best EVER and before finishing his serving was already dreaming of leftovers. Big hit! Thank you for making me a cook. Lol

Hi Nicole! Your comment made me laugh. 🙂 I’m so glad your son gave it raving reviews–sometimes the best meals are the easiest ones, right?

  2. This came out great! Game changer.

    1. Chrysti Benner says:

Thank you, Jean! I’m so glad it worked great for you! 🙂

  3. Tiffany Growney says:

What about using 3 packs of the rice? Still the same amount of water as one?

    1. Chrysti Benner says:

Hi Tiffany! You’ll need to increase the water and butter/oil for each additional pack. For instance, you would double all ingredients if you’re using 2 packs. I haven’t personally made 3 packs at the same time, but I would recommend tripling the amount of water and butter/oil if you give it a try, and I think you’d be fine to use the same cook time (or decrease it by one minute if you’d like, since it will take longer to come to pressure with that much more in the pot). Hope that helps!

  4. Deana Zorbis says:

Does this work for all the rice varieties? What if it needs milk, do you just ignore and use water?

    1. Chrysti Benner says:

Hi Deana! I haven’t tested it with all of the varieties, but I would imagine it would be pretty similar across varieties. If it calls for milk in addition to water, I would probably just use water. Hope that helps! 🙂

  5. If I wanted to add a chicken breast, would I need to cook a little longer?

    1. Chrysti Benner says:

Hi Katie! i would cut the chicken breast into two or three pieces, depending on how big it is, then keep the cook time the same. Enjoy! 🙂

  6. Hi, this is super helpful! Do you have instant pot instructions for the Knorr Pasta Sides?

    1. Chrysti Benner says:

Hi Susan! I haven’t tried those yet, but I’ve been meaning to experiment with them! I’ll have to see what I can figure out! 🙂
