Ingredients

  • 2 cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 cup unsulphured molasses (such as Grandma's brand)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 2 tablespoons milk

For Rolling Donut Holes:

  • 1/2 cup butter (melted)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 400F and spray a 24-well mini muffin pan with nonstick spray. Set aside.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine Bisquick, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves. Mix to combine (you can mix by hand or use an electric mixer).
  • Add molasses, egg, oil, applesauce, and milk. Mix on low speed until incorporated.
  • Use a small cookie scoop to scoop the batter into the prepared mini muffin pan. Bake in preheated oven to 10 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Remove from oven.
  • Place melted butter into a shallow dish, then combine sugar and cinnamon in a separate shallow dish. Once the donut holes are cool enough to handle, but are still warm, roll each one in melted butter, then in the cinnamon sugar mixture, coating well. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

  • I use unsulphured molasses, such as Grandma’s brand, which is available in most grocery stores.
  • These donut bites can be served warm or cold. I store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1-2 days.
  • Don’t have a mini muffin pan? Make these in a regular muffin pan instead. It should yield about 12 regular-size muffins. You’ll just need to increase the baking time–typically around 17-19 minutes.
