A slice of classic Dream Whip pie is one of those desserts that instantly takes me back to childhood.

It’s the type of chocolate pie you might remember being served on your grandmother’s table, right next to the deviled eggs and sweet tea after Sunday dinner.

It’s like something fancy you’d get from a diner case—light, fluffy, and piled high with whipped topping.

But it’s secretly so simple–a chocolate pie made with Dream Whip and pudding mix! That kind of low-effort, high-reward dessert is my favorite kind.

This isn’t just any chocolate pie, though—it’s the one with that creamy, mousse-like filling that makes people close their eyes on the first bite. You know the one.

And although it’s a nostalgic dessert that brings back warm memories, it also fits right in at potlucks, church gatherings, and holiday dinners today.

It’s just one of those timeless recipes that never goes out of style!

Making a No-Bake Chocolate Pie with Dream Whip

The beauty of this no-bake chocolate pie is in its simplicity. With just a handful of pantry staples and no oven required, this is the kind of dessert you can whip up without breaking a sweat.

But if you’ve never used Dream Whip before, you may not know what it is or where to find it.

Dream Whip is a powder that is typically mixed with milk and whipped until it’s the consistency of whipped cream.

It can then be used as a whipped topping, just as Cool Whip would be. Or, it can be used in dessert recipes like this chocolate pie!

The powder comes in packets, which are sold in boxes of two or four packets. These boxes are usually found in the baking aisle.

If you need ideas for using up the rest of the packets of Dream Whip mix, you can make this old-fashioned Dream Whip cake or this pistachio Dream Whip cake recipe.

This pie is great any time of year–bring it to a cookout, family reunion, church potluck, or serve it as a no-bake Christmas pie.

Notes and Adaptations

  • I use a store-bought graham cracker crust for ease, but you can make your own if you prefer.
  • For the whipped topping layer that’s added at the end, you can use Cool Whip (or similar), or you can use another packet of Dream Whip mix beaten together with 1/2 cup of milk and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract.
