Fresh corn on the cob dripping with melted butter is one of my favorite side dishes.
When corn is in season, I can’t get enough of it. I find myself picking up a bag of corn everytime I pass by the farmers market or a roadside stand.
Sweet corn with plump, juicy kernels is a real treat–and a true symbol of summer, in my book. I usually serve pressure cooker corn on the cob several times a month throughout the summer.
Brushed with melted butter and sprinkled with a little sea salt and black pepper is simple and tasty, but I also like to use freshly cooked corn in this sweet corn and tomato salad recipe.
It also makes a great addition in doctored-up Jiffy cornbread!
Instant Pot corn on the cob is faster and easier than boiling corn, and it tastes so good. It’s so simple because you don’t have to worry about boiling water or taking the corn out before it’s overcooked.
So you get perfect corn every time with this easy Instant Pot recipe!
Once you try pressure cooking corn on the cob, you may never go back to boiling it again!

What is the Instant Pot Cook Time for Corn on the Cob?
The beauty of this recipe is that it cooks so quickly! You can finish this Instant Pot corn faster than you can boil a pot of water!
Cook one ear of corn or fill the pot with as many as will fit, and the cook time is just 2-3 minutes at high pressure (depending on how tender you like your corn). It takes about 8-10 minutes for the Instant Pot to come up to pressure so the total time is just under 15 minutes.
Can you Cook Instant Pot Corn on the Cob without a Trivet or Steamer Basket?
I prefer to cook corn on the cob in a steamer basket or on the trivet. This is the easiest way to help it to “steam” better, as it keeps it up out of the water.
However, if you don’t have a trivet or steamer basket, or if your corn is too long to fit in a basket or on the trivet (and you don’t want to cut it), you can cook it without these accessories.
Pour the water in the bottom and stand the corn cobs in the water with the stem end down. Stand the corn in the most upright position you can, as you want as few kernels in the water as possible.

Do You Need to Shuck Corn Before Cooking in the Instant Pot?
I prefer to shuck my corn before cooking, but you can leave the corn husks on if you prefer.
Use a sharp knife and cut off the tassel end and the stem end of the corn and proceed with the recipe as directed.
If you leave the husks on, I recommend cooking for the full 3 minutes at high pressure. You could even increase the time at pressure to 4 minutes if needed.
When you remove the corn from the Instant Pot, the husks will slide right off the corn!
How to Cook Corn On The Cob in the Instant Pot
It’s really easy to make this pressure cooker corn on the cob recipe.
Ingredients You’ll Need:
- Fresh Corn on the Cob
- Water
How to Make It:
(Full printable recipe is available below)
Prepare the corn. First, you’ll shuck the corn and trim any long stems (you can also leave the husks on if you prefer).
Prepare the Instant Pot. Next, you’ll pour a cup of water into the insert of the Instant Pot and add the trivet or steamer basket. Arrange the corn on the trivet or in the basket.
Cook the corn. Last, you’ll close and seal the Instant Pot and cook at high pressure for a cooking time of 2-3 minutes (2 minutes for slightly firmer corn, 3 minutes for more tender corn or corn in the husk) followed by a quick release of pressure.
Serve your juicy corn with a pat of butter and some salt and pepper–it’s the perfect side dish for summer!
Notes and Adaptations:
- You can shuck the corn prior to cooking (this is what I normally do), or leave it in the husk. Even if you choose not to shuck the corn first, you’ll need to be sure to cut off the long stem from the bottom of the cobs so they’ll fit in your Instant Pot.
- If you do not have a trivet or steamer basket, or if your corn is too long to stand on the trivet, you can place the ears of corn directly in the water in as upright of a position as possible (you want as few kernels as necessary to be submerged in the water).
- You can prepare as few as one ear of corn or as many as will fit in your Instant Pot.
- Store leftover corn in a shallow airtight container (let it cool to room temperature first), or you can wrap the ears of corn individually with plastic wrap or aluminum foil. Refrigerate for 3-5 days.
Recommended Equipment:
- Instant Pot or other electric pressure cooker, such as a Ninja Foodi
- Steamer basket or trivet
Instant Pot Corn on the Cob
This crisp-tender Instant Pot corn on the cob is the delight of summer! Slather with butter, then sprinkle with salt and pepper for a simple side dish.
Ingredients
- 4 ears of fresh corn on the cob (or more or less, depending on your needs), shucked and trimmed of long stems
- 1 cup of water
Instructions
- Pour one cup of water into the insert pot of your Instant Pot and set the trivet or steamer basket in place. Add corn on the cob to the trivet or steamer basket.
- Close the lid and set the vent to the sealed position. Select a cook time of 2-3 minutes at high pressure, depending on how tender you prefer your corn.
- When the cook time is complete, perform a quick release of pressure. After the pressure has released and the valve has dropped, carefully remove the lid. Use tongs to remove the hot corn from the insert pot.
Notes
- You can shuck the corn prior to cooking (this is what I normally do), or leave it in the husk. Even if you choose not to shuck the corn first, you'll need to be sure to cut off the long stem from the bottom of the cobs so they'll fit in your Instant Pot. In this case, I suggest a 3 minute cook time.
- If you do not have a trivet, or if your corn is too long to stand on the trivet, you can place the ears of corn directly in the water in as upright of a position as possible (you want as few kernels as necessary to be submerged in the water).
- You can prepare as few as one ear of corn or as many as will fit in your Instant Pot.
