Can You Bake Cookies In an Air Fryer?
You bet! And it’s so easy to do.
This 3-ingredient recipe is delightfully simple to mix up and baking these cookies in the air fryer is faster than in the oven. These tips will help you make perfect cookies every time.
- Use white or brown sugar. White sugar works great but I also love the molasses flavor brought by brown sugar.
- Chill the dough. Chilling the dough for just 30 minutes keeps the cookies from spreading too much while they cook. No time to chill the dough? You can make these without chilling but leave a little more space between each cookie.
- Adjust time as needed. Air fryers can vary so the cooking time is an estimate so adjust as needed. The cookies should be firm when done and slightly brown on the egdes. You can also use a toothpick to check for doneness.

How to Make this Air Fryer Peanut Butter Cookie Recipe:
(Full printable recipe is available below)
Prepare the cookie dough. First, you’ll beat together peanut butter and sugar until smooth in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment (or in a large mixing bowl, using an electric hand mixer).
Add in the egg. Beat together for a minute or two until the mixture resembles cookie dough.
Refrigerate the dough. Next, you’ll transfer dough to the refrigerator to chill for 30 minutes.
Shape the cookies. Then, you’ll remove the chilled dough from the refrigerator and use a tablespoon or small cookie scoop to scoop dough out.
Roll peanut butter cookie dough into balls then use the tines of a fork to press the ball into a flat shape with a crisscross pattern on it.
Once the crosshatch pattern is finished, you’re ready to bake in the air fryer.
Air fry the cookies. Then, you’ll line your air fryer basket with parchment paper, being careful to trim if necessary (you don’t want excess paper coming up the sides of the basket).
Place cookies onto parchment, leaving at least a half inch space in between cookies.
The number of cookies you can fit will depend on the size of your air fryer, but you’ll likely have enough space for 4-6 cookies.
Set temperature to 370F and bake for 4 minutes cook time.
Cool and serve. Last, you’ll remove the basket from the air fryer and let cookies cool in the basket for about 4 minutes of rest time before transferring them to a cooling rack.
Repeat until all dough has been baked. Enjoy your sweet treat from this easy air fryer recipe!
Notes and Adaptations:
- Although I don’t chill this dough when baking in the oven, it is helpful when baking in the air fryer. The chilling step keeps them from spreading too much and keeps them from being a crumbly mess when leaving the air fryer.
- Let the cookies cool in the basket for 4 minutes so they don’t fall apart when transferring.
- If you have air fryer parchment paper with breathing holes, that promotes optimum circulation. If not, regular parchment paper cut down to size will work.
- Each air fryer has various cooking settings. If your air fryer doesn’t have a 370 degree setting, choose the closest step under it as opposed to over it.
- You can use brown or white sugar–whatever you have on hand!
- Feel free to add 1/2 cup chocolate chips to the dough when mixing, if you’d like.
- Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
- I have not tested this with natural peanut butter that requires refrigeration. I use creamy peanut butter, but you could also use crunchy peanut butter if preferred.
