Slow Cooker Chicken and Gravy
Cooking chicken and gravy in the slow cooker is an easy way to “set it and forget it,” allowing you to come home to a delicious meal with minimal effort.
I like to use homemade cream of chicken soup in this recipe, but you can certainly opt for the canned variety if you prefer.
And packets of gravy mix are the secret weapon here, ensuring we get plenty of flavor without measuring and adding multiple seasonings.
You can cook it for 4-6 hours on low, or if you’re in more of a hurry, you can cook it on high for 2-3 hours.

How to Make It:
(Full printable recipe is available below)
Combine ingredients. First, you’ll add the chicken broth, cream of chicken soup, gravy mix, garlic powder, and black pepper (and Italian seasoning, if using) in the slow cooker.
Whisk them together until smooth, then add in the chicken breasts.
Cook. Next, you’ll close the lid on the slow cooker and cook on Low for 4-6 hours or High for 2-3 hours.
Once the chicken is fully cooked through, remove it from the liquid and shred or chop it.
Stir and serve. Return the chicken to the liquid in the Crockpot and stir to combine.
Serve the chicken and gravy over your carb of choice–we loved mashed potatoes or fluffy white rice, but you could also spoon it over noodles or biscuits!
Notes and Adaptations:
- If you don’t want to use homemade cream of chicken soup, you can use two 10-oz cans of condensed cream of chicken soup. In that case, you may want to use water instead of broth, as condensed soups tend to contain more salt than homemade.
- If the gravy is too thick for your preference, add water or broth 1/4-cup at a time until desired consistency is achieved.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
- Reheat leftovers in a large skillet over medium heat, adding water or broth as needed.
