Bisquick Apple Cider Donut Holes

These baked apple cider donut bites are made with Bisquick and a handful of other ingredients, making a delicious fall breakfast or dessert.

Bisquick apple cider donut holes are the perfect autumn treat. They bake in a mini muffin pan, so they’re easy to make and disappear fast!

If you’ve ever had an apple cider donut from a local orchard in the fall, you know how decadent of a treat it is.

Soft and tender apple spice donuts coated with a layer of cinnamon sugar are the epitome of autumn flavors, and they’re the type of treat my kids can’t get enough of.

After making my beloved pumpkin donut holes many, many times, I decided to try a different flavor variety this year, and that’s how these apple cider donut holes came to be.

They’re technically mini muffins, but they look like little bite-sized donut holes (and my kids think donut holes are far superior to mini muffins, ha!), so that’s what we call them.

They’re moist and fluffy on the inside, with just the right amount of texture on the outside from the cinnamon sugar. We love having them for a special weekend breakfast, and I love how easy they are to make!

Since they’re baked, not fried, there’s less mess to deal with afterward, which is always a win.

This is one of my favorite recipes made with Bisquick, so I try to always keep a box in the pantry.

Tips for Baking Apple Cider Donut Bites:

  • While these are actually mini muffins, they puff up quite a bit while baking, which gives them the rounded appearance of donut bites.
  • Don’t have a mini muffin pan? Make these in a regular muffin pan instead. It should yield about 12 regular-size muffins. You’ll just need to increase the baking time–typically around 17-19 minutes.
  • If you have a donut pan for baking full-size donuts, you can use that if preferred. You can either scoop the batter into the molds or use a piping bag.

How to Make Apple Cider Donut Holes with Bisquick

It’s really easy to make this breakfast treat.

Ingredients You’ll Need

  • Bisquick baking mix
  • Sugar
  • Cinnamon
  • Apple butter or cinnamon applesauce
  • Apple cider
  • Egg
  • Vegetable oil
  • Unsalted butter

How to Make It:

Prep the batter. First, you’ll whisk together the baking mix, sugar, and ground cinnamon. Then add in the apple butter (or applesauce), apple cider, egg, and oil.

Whisk to combine.

Bake. Then, you’ll use a small cookie scoop to portion the batter out into a greased mini muffin pan.

Bake them in a preheated oven for about 10-12 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center of a donut hole comes out clean.

Coat the donut bites. Then, you’ll roll each donut hole in some melted butter, followed by a mixture of cinnamon sugar.

This gives them that delicious coating that’s characteristic of apple cider donuts. Then serve and enjoy!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • I like to use apple butter in this recipe if I have it on hand, because it adds great flavor (you can make slow cooker apple butter or Instant Pot apple butter at home!).
  • If you don’t have apple butter on hand, cinnamon applesauce is a good substitute. If you only have regular applesauce, I’d suggest increasing the amount of cinnamon in the batter to 1 teaspoon.
  • I don’t recommend using salted butter when rolling these donut bites–I’ve tried it and they were too salty for my preference. So I always stick with unsalted butter.
  • Leftover donut bites can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a couple of days.

  • When the donut holes are almost finished baking, melt butter in a shallow microwave-safe dish. Combine sugar and cinnamon in a separate small dish.
