I’ve always loved the classic comfort of applesauce, but when I found myself with a bounty of both fresh pears and apples, I knew it was time to create something new.
Combining the two fruits just seemed like the perfect idea, and that’s how this delicious apple pear sauce came to be. The addition of pears adds a unique sweetness and depth that’s truly irresistible.
The warm spice blend of cinnamon and nutmeg pairs perfectly with the fruit, making this a side dish that’s refreshing yet comforting.
One of my favorite ways to enjoy this sauce is as a side with savory dishes. It pairs beautifully with fried chicken, pork chops, or even dumplings, balancing the rich flavors with its sweet and spiced notes.
Trust me, once you try it, you’ll want to serve it with every meal.
It’s also fantastic spread on toast for a quick breakfast or snack. And if you’re looking for something to drizzle over pancakes, this sauce adds the perfect touch of natural sweetness and spice.

Storing Pear and Applesauce
What I love most about this apple pear sauce with cinnamon recipe is how easy it is to make. In just a short time, you can have a batch of this delightful sauce ready to enjoy.
To store it, you’ll want to let it cool completely, then simply transfer the sauce to airtight containers and store in the fridge for up to two weeks.
The good news is that it also freezes well. Pop some into a freezer-safe container and store it for up to a couple of months. Defrost it in the fridge overnight for the best results.
Canning is an option, too–just be sure to follow proper water bath canning instructions.
Enjoying apple and pear sauce is the perfect method to savor the flavors of fall anytime of year!

How to Make Spiced Apple Pear Sauce
It’s really easy to whip up a batch of this sweet side.
Ingredients You’ll Need:

- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Lemon Juice

How to Make It:
(Full printable recipe is available below)
Cook the fruit. First, you’ll combine the chopped apples and pears in a saucepan. Add water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally.
Reduce heat to medium-low. Cover the saucepan and simmer for 20-25 minutes, or until the fruit is very soft.

Mash the sauce. Next, you’ll carefully mash the fruit with a potato masher or blend with an immersion blender (be careful–it’s hot!) until you reach your desired consistency.

Sweeten and season. Last, you’ll Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice, stirring to combine.
Cook for an additional 5 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together. Remove from heat and let cool before serving.

Notes and Adaptations:
- You can use whatever varieties of apples and pears you prefer. I like to use a blend of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples. I most often use Bartlett pears, but Bosc and D’Anjou will work well, too.
- If you prefer to use your slow cooker, you can combine all ingredients in the Crock Pot, decreasing the water to 1/4 cup, and cook on low for 4-6 hours, or until the fruit is soft.
- Spiced apple pear sauce can be served cold or warm.
