Using Orange Soda in the Ninja Creami

There are some tips you should consider when using soda in the NInja Creami–because we don’t want it to expand so much that it overflows in the container.

So to make this ice cream, I recommend starting with semi-flat orange soda.

It doesn’t have to be completely flat, but I do reduce the carbonation so it doesn’t expand as much when freezing.

There are a couple of ways to accomplish this, depending on how much time you have.

You can either let it sit out in an open container for several hours, or you can stir it constantly over a short period of time, which will allow it to release the bubbles.

I follow these same steps when making Ninja Creami root beer ice cream, too!

Then when it’s ready to freeze, I leave the pint lid partially unsealed, just so there’s room for additional gas to release.

How to Make Ninja Creami Orange Soda Ice Cream

It’s really easy to make this delicious treat!

Ingredients You’ll Need:

  • Orange soda (I used Orange Fanta)
  • Dream Whip mix

How to Make It:

(Full printable recipe card is available below)

Release carbonation. First, you’ll partially flatten the soda. Pour it into a container, then stir it gently but constantly for a few minutes.

You’ll notice bubbles coming to the surface and popping, which is releasing the carbonation.

Continue until there aren’t many bubbles coming up.

Next, you’ll add the dry Dream Whip mix to the soda. It may cause the soda to foam even more, which is fine!

Continue stirring until combined.

Freeze. If needed, use a spoon to skim the foam from the top of the liquid.

Pour the mixture into a Ninja Creami pint container.

Place the lid loosely on the container, then transfer to a level surface in your freezer. Freeze for at least 24 hours.

Spin. Last, you’ll remove the pint from the freezer. Take off the lid, then place the container into the outer bowl of the Ninja Creami machine.

Secure the outer bowl lid, then transfer the outer bowl to the machine.

Lock it into place, then press the Lite Ice Cream button.

Re-spin if needed. Once the cycle is complete, remove the pint from the machine.

If its consistency is crumbly or powdery, add a tablespoon of water (or orange soda), then use the Re-spin button to process it again.

Once it’s smooth and creamy, it’s ready to be served and enjoyed!

Notes and Adaptations:

  • I do not recommend using diet orange soda, since it doesn’t have any sugar. The Dream Whip mix has no fat and very little sugar, so your machine could be damaged if sugar-free soda is used.
  • Dream Whip can usually be found in the baking aisle of the grocery store. It’s a dry mix traditionally used to make whipped topping, often sold in boxes containing 2-4 packets.

Making Ninja Creami ice cream with orange soda is like enjoying a creamsicle frozen treat!

Prep Time 9 minutes
Additional Time 1 day
Total Time 1 day 9 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups orange flavored soda (*see note below)
  • 1 packet Dream Whip mix

Instructions

  1. Add orange soda to a large liquid measuring cup or a small mixing bowl. Using a spoon, stir the soda gently but constantly. This will help carbonation bubbles to rise to the surface, where they will pop. Keep stirring for about 4-5 minutes, as this will partially flatten the soda. Give it a taste--it should be semi-flat.
  2. Add the Dream Whip mix to the soda. Stir well to incorporate (it may fizz more while you're mixing it, which is fine). If needed, skim excess foam from the top.
  3. Transfer mixture to a Ninja Creami pint container and loosely apply the lid. I kept my lid partially open to allow gas to release). Freeze for at least 24 hours on a level surface.
  4. Remove pint from freezer and take off lid. Place the pint into the Ninja Creami's outer bowl, securing the outer bowl lid.
  5. Place the bowl apparatus into the Ninja Creami machine, twisting it into place. Press the Lite Ice Cream button and allow the cycle to complete.
  6. Remove the pint from the machine and check its consistency. If it appears crumbly, place it back in the machine and press the Re-spin button. If it's still kind of powdery after that, add a tablespoon of water and Re-spin again.

Notes

  • I tested this recipe with regular orange soda (I used Orange Fanta). I wouldn't recommend using diet soda, because Dream Whip mix has no fat and very little sugar, so your machine could be damaged.
  • Dream Whip can usually be found in the baking aisle of the grocery store. It's a dry mix used to make whipped topping, often sold in boxes of 2-4 packets.
